Eco-Patch
Description
Added by: Tao
We are a local Abbotsford community garden project in its infancy stage. we hope to cultivate the small area of land resting above the Yarra river banks in Abbotsford. With a recent development of 400 apartments being added to our community, there is a distinct lack of gardening options for these new residents. Therefore it is our desire to develop an Organic Sustainable Community Garden Project, with emphasis on Eco-conscious Food production via allotment style Vegetable raised planter boxes (grouped in hexagonal style mimicking honeycomb). We also hope to develop and community composting system as well as worm farm and urban bee hives for pollination. The vision for the Project is to bring together the community through the garden and encourage social integration and development. We hope to include educational programs not only for schools, but for locals wishing to expand on their knowledge about Organic Food Cultivation, Permaculture, Sustainable living habits, etc. We intend to organise Open Days, and workshops, Food swaps and community get-togethers with acoustic music and picnics hopefully fed via the garden itself. We have a big vision that we hope to start small and then expand to other key sites in the Abbotsford and Richmond Area.
