3000acres works to increase access to land, both at the community level and at the regulatory level. We work to build relationships with organisations such as VicTrack and Melbourne Water and facilitate access for community groups to make the most of underused sites.
When we learnt that the food charity Fareshare were looking for a site near their kitchen in Abbotsford to grow fresh vegetables for their meals, we identified a piece of vacant VicTrack land just up the road and helped negotiate the lease. With our experience of setting up new gardens from scratch we were able to give the Fareshare team some initial advice and linked them up with experts at the University of Melbourne, Burnley who helped design the growing beds.
We’ve continued to have an interest in the progress of this fantastic garden and have participated in their events and publications.
